Topic and Theme |
A TOPIC is the subject that a piece of writing is about. A THEME is the important point about the topic that the writing makes. For example, the TOPIC of Scooby Doo is solving mysteries. One THEME of Scooby Doo is that Good triumphs over evil. These are examples of a few common themes we might run across in literature. There are many more themes out there, these are just a few to choose from. 1. Nature is at war with each of us and proves our helplessness. 2. People are out of place in Nature and need technology to survive. 3. People are destroying nature and themselves with uncontrolled technology. 4. Society and a person's inner nature are always at war. 5. Social influences determine a person's final destiny. 6. A person's identity is determined by place in society. 7. You can't change who you are. 8. There are few friends who will make extreme sacrifices. 9. A child must go through a series of obstacles before becoming a grown-up. 10. Everyone had an inner child. Sometimes it holds us back, sometimes it brings us happiness. 11. A person grows by facing obstacles. 12. Enjoy life now because we all die too soon. 13. By the time we understand life, there is too little left to live. 14. Death is part of living, giving life its final meaning. 15. Sometimes people do stupid things to impress other people. 16. Honesty is always the best policy. 17. Honest isn't always the best policy. 18. Family is the most important thing. 19. Faith is the most important thing. 20. A good friend is hard to find. 21. Don't judge a book by its cover. 22. Things aren't always what they seem. 23. We can change the future. (Free will) 24. The future is already set for us. (Fate) 25. Every action has a reaction. 26. The fittest are most able to survive. 27. With freedom comes responsibility. 28. It is important to be your own person (don't be a poser). 29. Love is stronger than hate. 30. Good is stronger than evil. |
